Windscreen Washer System on X350

Hello all.

Is it just me or is the screen washer system on the X350 really feeble and inadequate?

While the washer jets on our family Toyota Avensis estate sends out two powerful soapy jets targeted perfectly at the windscreen, the two nozzles on the wiper blades of my X350 send feeble, weedy little misdirected squirts - barely onto the screen, a source of constant consternation on my part.

Reporting this to my dealership at the service last month, they cleaned out the system, which was slightly bunged up with accumulated muck and also replaced the driver's side blade, which contains the nozzle for that side.

I could barely contain my excitement the next time I had cause to use the washers, only to find that there appeared to be absolutely no difference at all!!

I despair. Any similar experiences anyone?

No, washers on my old X350 were good, plenty of liquid just where it was needed.
Suggest you still have a problem with yours

The washers on the x350 are the best I've ever had on a car.
Maybe you have a problem with the pump?

Following the advice on another thread I did this...

- Remove garden hose end completely so it's just the hosepipe and push right down into the washer reservoir until it will go no further.
- Turn on tap and leave for a little while until the water pouring out of the top of the reservoir is completely clear (make sure you have good drainage on your drive way!)
- Next, pull both the washer hoses off the wiper clips and clamp one with a clothes peg and workshop clamp etc.
- using a foot pump with one of those plastic pointy nozzle accessories fitted that they usually come with, often red or yellow plastic, push this into the other washer hose and pump. You should see bubbles coming up through the reservoir.
- repeat with the other pipe, vice versa.
- do a final purge with the hose pipe to clear the gunge blown out of the system

Finally, make sure you add some screen wash cleaner to the system, which will hopefully have some anti-bacterial/system cleaning properties!

PS I had the bonnet up and put the foot pump on an old towel on top of the cylinder block.

Thanks everyone. Sounds like my system isn't operating as it should.

However, at the MOT last month I paid my dealer ÂŁ80 to resolve the problem and they reported that they had cleaned and flushed an accumulation of debris and bacteria out of the system and also replaced the driver's side wiper blade.

I guess I'll have to go back to them again....
