XJ Portfolio or XJ50

Morning all, I have now got the bug to go for the XJ but not sure which one to go for.

I have been looking at both the XJ and the XJ50. I am looking at the 68 plate onwards

I did go to the local garage in Guildford on Saturday for a test drive in the XJ50 but someone beat me to it by 10 mins. If it is you that are reading this I hate you 🤣

Any thoughts from fellow XJ drivers on which one to go for.

TIA

Thank you Thevoices2

That is an amazing reply. I have tried comparing the both as I meant the XJ50 celebration (didn’t know there was another version)
Guess I will look at the Portfolio as there are more options out there.
Thanks again and watch this space.

Hey Taffy, sorry to hear you missed out

As they say, what's for you won't go by you, so maybe wasn't the one for you.

Definitely look for either a well specc'd Portfolio with add ons, or if you can, an Autobiography and be done with it.

That said there are some really nice XJ50's out there probably with add ons too lol

Either way, hope to welcome you to the X351 section sooner rather than later (y)

Jim
Thanks Jim, hopefully not too long

Any luck on seeking out your next cat yet.........🤞
Hi Jimbo

I have seen one but it is in Bootle so I have requested a full spec of the car before I go wandering up there.

Great news Taffy (y)

Totally biased biased opinion (am I bovered  ) go for the portfolio ... personally I never found the need for a telly at the back of me bonce

I will say this though, the interior of Jim's autobiography is spiffing ;)
Hi Gina

Totally agree with the TV's in the back, maybe 20 years ago but they wont get used now, so looking at the Portfolio as there is more choice out there.

Good call Taffy, you still might come across a well spec'd Portfolio on your searches that takes your fancy.

Keep on looking and enjoy the hunt

Jim
Thanks Jim

Everyone I look at I want but I have listened to you guys and not going for a test drive until I find the right one……. Just in case 🤣

This has shown up on Autotrader... Nice colour combo. Loire (Sapphire) blue and ivory.

Thanks Chris

Looks a good un but it is too high mileage for me. I am looking at between 20 and 30K due to the amount of mileage I do on a weekly basis. There have been a couple but I tell you what, they don't hang around that's for sure.
I notice you own an XJ50, what is it like?

Nice find, love that colour combo, and actually reasonable mileage.

Sounds like a nice car Taffy.

I see you're looking for low mileage, won't be too many out there. Also consider anything with really low mileage may just have been tootled about town stop / start too.

As you say, good ones don't hang around for too long, gotta be quicker lol

The right one will come (y)

Jim
Absolutely Jim but I am forever hopeful and they are not that old so there will be a few around.

I am not overly worried if they have been driven round town as the first thing I will do is get it fully serviced and, as I said, the mileage I do it will get a good run every day to clear the cobwebs.

What a great write up and thank you for your time. It certainly sounds like I am looking for the right one. I have seen the new one you have sent and I have already sent the dealer a message. 👌

Best of luck with your search. Lots of advice here on the forum if you need it. I found it invaluable in my hunt for an XJ.
The car in Norwich has had a reserve on it already and the guy is going Sunday for a test drive, da ja vou I think. He will let me know if the guy buys it.......

Well a slight update and a bit shocked in the outcome.

Myself and the Mrs popped down to Southampton on the weekend as they had an XJ there but when I sat in it I was totally underwhelmed. I was gutted as that was always the car for me so the heart was broken. I don't know what it was, as I can't put the finger on it, but just felt deflated.
While we were there we sat in the F Type but again that didn't do anything and the rear end kind of put me off with the bum sticking out on both sides. If only they still did the XK......
Then I sat in the F Pace and OMG the feeling I had from that was the feeling I was looking forward to with the XJ so now the hunt is on for the F Pace and unfortunately the XJ is now no longer an option.
Just need to save a few more pennies now as I am really after the newer model, so 2021 onwards, and they aren't cheap 🤣 I did ask if I could PX the XF and the misses but that didn't go down too well 🤣🤣🤣 If you don't ask you don't get.........

Hi Taffy, surprised and shocked here too, but, you like what you like as they say.

F Pace it is then, let the hunt begin anew

Sounds like you're going to be splashing some cash to get the one you want, even more if they won't take the XF / Mrs lol

Cheers and happy hunting
Jim
Thanks mate

I still can't believe how underwhelmed I was. Never really thought of the F Pace but I must admit it is lovely to sit in. I am already on the case and emails flying here,, there and everywhere.

I will, of course, be waiting for the right one. It will be an expense so it has to be right.

They’re not for everyone and the F pace is a more than capable and comfortable machine. Good luck with the search. (y)
Thanks Jimbo
I will keep you posted. Checking internet every day. Feel like a stalker 🤣

My only comment about the F-Pace having just had one for several days is the comfort. For me, in comparison with the XJ, it wasn't. Purely down to the seat. In the XJ, I can adjust the seat so that it's supporting the full length of my thighs. Couldn't do that in the F-Pace but of course that could be a trim-level thing.
Oh and how it rolls in corners and on the motorway. But this is just down to the SUV design as the Evoque and RR Sport I've recently had did exactly the same.
Thanks John
I do need to book a test drive in the F Pace but on the case.

Best of luck with your F-Pace search. Definitely test drive one as soon as you can. I say that only because I didn't like the handling when I drove one as a loan car ("SUV-like handling" - unsuprisingly) but then my tastes are more towards XJs and "non-SUVs". What sold the XJ to me is when I finally drove one. There is no right answer, the important thing is that the answer is right for you.
Thanks Chris

I have got a couple of weeks off now so just booked a test drive and waiting for a call back.

I have never considered a SUV neither so we will see how the test drive goes.

Still gutted with the XJ though

Well there you go Taffy, you never know until you look and try, and if the X351 is not for you, at least you can rest easy on that score now.

Exciting times ahead then, with a new challenge on finding the right F-Pace to fit your criteria, and I'm guessing that will be easier for you, with perhaps more choice out there - once again exciting times with the prospect of a new motor shortly being yours and your good lady's to enjoy.

Funny enough I pulled alongside one in the Co-op car park this afternoon, as you do, and took a longer look at it with renewed interest of course. Quite a beefy looking big cat with some presence to boot, I'm sure you will be c0ck-a-hoop when you have yours ... looking forward to seeing what you get as and when (y) :)
Thanks Gina

I am looking at them all the time now and must admit they are growing on me more and more.

Still looking for the right one with the available budget, not as easy as it sounds, but then again I am after the most from my money ;)

Hi all, finally gone the deal. Picking a D200 S F Pace up tomorrow morning in Portofino Blue but although it is the basic model there are quite a few nice extras with it, including a detachable towbar which will be used for taking the bikes out with me and the boss. Just over 20K on the clock and looking forward to it.

Pictures to follow but I have been disowned as a friend from a fellow XJ driver already. I think it is just pure jealousy myself :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Thanks Ruby

It took a while but I think I have picked the right one, especially with the great deal I got too. The interior is a nice light brown so different to the normal black or white. Just adds that little bit of poshness to the experience ;)

Thanks guys, at least I keep some friends :ROFLMAO:

Just waiting for the shopping to arrive then will pop over to the dealer to grab the car
