Hi...
What's the best battery to buy for a 1998 XJ8 - 4 litre?
Any good/bad experiences in fitting a new battery to this model...radio code input etc?
Thanks

Kwil....this is the correct battery for your model....no ifs or buts ;o]

VARTA Silver H3 Heavy Duty Car Battery - Thompsons Ltd

Electrical problems with these cars are usually down to cheap batteries that don't cut it and/or poorly maintained.
A good battery is a wise investment seing as how the electrical loads of modern cars demand the best ....or are you into gtief spasms? ;o))

Hi lads...many thanks for the info.
I take it fitting the battery is straightforward, no problems experienced re: input of radio anti-theft code etc??
Also Jagman: just noticed in another thread you don't use your Jag a lot and have it on 'trickle-charge'...Can you recommend a good Battery Charger?
Many thanks

Hello Kwil....yes, I don't use it a lot...about once or twice a week....being a pensioner and having a special deal on full comprehensive insurance places certain restrictions on it's use but when i do take it out, it's no less that at least 150klm ;o)
In your country you will find sevearl good quality multi stage chargers....make sure they are capable of charging and rejuvenating Calcium batteries which require special charging.
In this day and age it's essential to have a good battery charger, it pays for itself in no time and saves a lot of grief.
I'm afraid the battery is the most overlooked item in the car but is the most important.
