XKR Satnav To Clock Dash Conversion

Regular readers may recall that my beautiful XK8 had its front end reorganised by a rampant BMW 4x4. Aviva have now scrapped her so I'm looking for another car (I'm having one hell of a scrap with them over the write-off value - they valued it at £3,420 but equivalent yr 2000 8's cost around £6,500. I'll do a separate post on my success/failure).

A good friend of mine has several Jags and Daimlers, and he has an unused XKR sitting in his garage. I don't know the details yet but from the pics it's a slightly later version with the additional side mouldings and less recessed spotlights. Anyway, it has the Satnav mounted in the dash and it's the only thing I don't like. Astromorg was looking at replacing the Satnav with a clock + other gauges, but I don't think he finished it. Has anyone done a conversion to std gauges or anything that's nicer looking (and more useful as I only really do local driving nowadays)?

As you say Jim, I'm working on this topic. So far, while still retaining the nearly-useless satnav, I have installed an oil pressure gauge and an analogue clock. Next step is to fit a Garmin satnav with reversing camera, then a panel in lieu of the ashtray with remote USB point for satnav updates, garage door opener and an MP3 input socket for a tapedeck hack. Christmas and budgetary limits might mean (ie will!) delay completion until the New Year.

Oyster's suggestion is a good one. The Jagwrangler's upgrades are top quality and well proved in combat.

Errr yessss Barney! When I get my PHD from The Nigerian State Univarsitty (£25 off the Internet) in micro-electronics and gadgetry, the web page tells me that I will understand all these things including androids and other robot related stuff!

I just hope you're suggesting that I should touch the ......... wiring??!!

Jim I don't know what you are looking for, or how urgent your need is, but due to health issues I might be needing to put mine on the market in the future.

I would prefer it to go to an enthusiast who knows the positives and negatives etc. and not to someone just looking at something to thrash for 12 months before moving on.

Good luck with the insurance, they definitely need to up that amount!

I swopped the satnav on my 2001 XK8 convertible for the 3 guage set up. I then converted them to real guage read out using the kit from Jagwrangler in the US. I am very poor with electrics but the instructions are brilliant and I managed it all without any problems. I would recommend the swop anytime, regards Graham.
