Hi there

Just decided to upgrade audio on my 04 estate, and would like to use double din unit. Don't want to watch DVDs in my car but i want Bluetooth conectivity. At the moment i got Parrot MKI9200 and its nice thing, but i want even better quality. (btw if anyone would like to buy Parrot MKi9200 with x-type harness please PM or bartnik.bartnik@gmail.com ) Anyway here is what i found.
CLARION CX609E

JVC KW-SD70BT

Kenwood DPX-405BT

Or Sony WX-GT90BT

All of them got Bluetooth , about 4 x 50W RMS ,variable key illumination and USB / line in ports
Price is similar - about ÂŁ130 - ÂŁ150
Here is questions:

Does anyone got them fitted in x-type before (I know about depth problem )?
Which one would look best on x-type dash ?
Thanks in advance

JVC or Sony. Only ones that'll last.

Check the measurments for the depth, they can be a problem!

I have a sony xav, I had to modify the fascia with fibreglass so the head unit sat on the front and not in the grooved seat as the depth.

There's some picks on the forum somewhere and few others have had success in sorting it :)
Thanks for info - will read more.
Just checked and XAV depth is 7 inch (17,8cm)
Kenwood DPX-405BT which I decided to buy, is only 15.7 cm so fingers crossed :)

BTW. Parrot is reserved for jagryan85 so please stop asking about it

All good choices but I believe none are 50W RMS - that's peak power. Most are rated between 20W - 22W RMS - sufficient enough power for the X-Type with its arch-curved interior cabin.

You are 100% right :" built-in MOSFET amplifier (22 watts RMS/50 peak x 4 channels)" . My mistake
It still must be 100% more than factory - non amp stereo have.
Anyway - I think that if I use small active sub (got VIBE CBR12 of my previous car) + all new 2 way speakers in doors (Hertz 17) , results should be quite good ( not a techno/dance/hiphop fan)

@BARTNIK

Yes the stock non-amplified system is rated between 8W - 11W RMS (25W - 35W Peak) depending on the year. I too have a non-amplified aftermarket solution that's rated at 17W x 4 RMS (50W Peak) and I just love sitting in the car while parked under the port listening to my music.

Infotainment Upgrades: SONY XDP-MU110 DSP, iSimple TranzIt IS77, Arkon SM432-G Mobile Mount, Massive Audio SX6+VX6 Coaxial, Pioneer TS-T110+SONY XSH20S Tweeters

Good job Nyces - I hope mine will just fit flat (I know that its way too optimistic :) )
Meanwhile new radio arrived - now just waiting for fascia, autoleads stalk control interface and antenna converter. Will post some pictures and I'll try to take measurements of available space in dash

Ok it fits :)

So for future generations - max depth of double din is 15,7 - 16 cm (don't really care about inches :) )

Improvement in sound is massive. Now all I need to do is upgrade speakers.
BTW stalk conector adapter from Autoleads does not work - will send it back and get Connect2 (10 pounds cheaper)

Very Nice Bartnik. Enjoy!

makes me want to do this as well. hmmmmm... time...

Bluetooth work just fine - good sound quality , no problems at all. For controls on steering wheel you need Connect2 stalk control and patch lead (Autoleads one does not work). Sound quality is superb - compared to factory system. Stereo backlight dimming when car lights are on - matching witch dashboard brightness. Only thing I would change about kenwood unit is to add more characters to display - letters are slightly too big and there is just one line.

Umm, perhaps this is the solution to me wanting to play my iPhone music and still have phone connectivity. Does the radio have a phone book or do you need to use the phone to select who you are trying to call?

Nice install bartnik, well done!

That is what I need then, thanks for posting this info, it's very helpful.

One more thing BARTNIK, does the radio automatically grab your contacts list when you connect it via Bluetooth, or is it a manual input :(

Hi

So you can fit a double din easy as long at the main unit is not more than 16cm (160mm) in depth??????????????????????????

#20 ·
Depends on the headunit and if it is the unit or heatsink that fouls on the air ducting in the car, my pioneer was 2cm too deep to fit so I fabricated a smaller heatsink at work so it just fit, and put a small fan on top where it was clear to provide air movement. Some headunits are okay as the heatsink or body sits just under the air duct pipework. Its the seam on the air ducting sticking out that is the problem. You could cut that seam and plastic weld it flush or araldite it I guess if it were easier

OK, I'm just about to order the same head unit as Bartnik, mainly because it fits without any further mods, and I like the style, and because I've had several Kenwood units before and never had any issues. I need the Connect2 lead as described for the steering wheel control, as well as the fascia panel, but is there anything else I need? What about the aerial, is it a standard type or something stupid?
How exactly does the new radio secure inside the hole?

Thanks

Yes you will need one of those if you are buying individually, otherwise they come with the kits I mentioned on the other thread

Obliged, thanks

Now all ordered, cannot wait to get this in. Does anyone want to buy a fully working CD head unit and phone module?

I'm guessing so Ryan, it's in the rear nearside corner that much i do know.

I think for the Bluetooth version there is a module in the centre console too....they go for good money if you have the complete setup. Remember if you take it out you will have to shorten the fibre optics down because you have one less module. I'd snap it off you but I've not long bought a parrot kit!
