Fuel pump reset

Hi there,

Not been on for a while. I have a 2006 2.2 xtype.

I recently disconnected the fuel line (white clip) from the fuel filter so that I could get to another part. I foolishly turned over the engine without reconnecting the fuel line to the fuel filter which must've caused the fuel pump to cut out so I didn't spill fuel all over the engine bay. I assume the fuel pump kicked out quickly as the engine ran for about 30 seconds whilst it drained the remaining fuel in the system before cutting out.

I've tried resetting the ecu by removing fuses F32 and F36 for five minutes. I've also tried to rest the fuel pump by pressing the reset switch down by the accelerator. I turned the key to position 0 pressed the reset switch and turned the key to position ii for a few seconds then back to zero. Are you supposed to hold the rest button down whilst you turn the ignition to position ii?

Any way the fuel pump was working fine before I did any of this so has anyone got any ideas how I might fix this issue. I'm fairly sure the fuel pump should still be working. But not sure how to get if functioning again.

Any ideas?

Thanks Roger.

I already tried that and drained my battery! I got a recovery man out who charged my battery and tried to get it running, but he disconnected the pipes and found no fuel was coming though and thought the pump must have cut out, but didn't know how to get it going again. He sprayed a bit of easy start and the engine fired, but then cut out as no fuel was coming through. My car is booked in on Tuesday anyway so I'll get it into the garage then.

I've read elsewhere that the ecu may need reflashing!

Any other ideas?

The fuel cut out reset is acutally called the inertia switch (is not the trip reset button) it's down on the inside front door pillar by your right ankle. it's kind of hidden down a little recess in the plastic. See page 140 of your owners manual. It's supposed to stop fuel flow in the event of an accident, but apparently other faults can trigger it.

Whilst I'm on and if I have knackered the pump. Is a pump for the 2.0 the same part as for the 2.2 diesel engine?

Theres a few on ebay for around ÂŁ60 which would seem a cheaper solution than paying about ÂŁ1000 for a brand new OEM one.
