Anyone used Halfords to mix paint to match your car, I was looking to get them to mix me up some spray paint so I can paint me reversing sensors that had to be replaced but are black when me car is grey.

Depends on the colour i think ive used them a couple of times on other cars and they have been ok but i got some for my s type which is a metallic silver and it’s just off colour to me but i have read that metallic paints can be hard to match.

HI
Id go to a proper paint shop, there sometimes up to 4 shades of a paint code, paint code alone won't give you the exact shade, but will be close
halfords wont tell you that, just mix you the color
if you go a paint shop with say your petrol flap the can match it exactly
most paint shops now will also mix you touch up size and aerosols and with give you good advice like what thinners, laquer and flash off times between coats
and also there usually cheaper
depends what you have in your area i suppose
cheers

True, metallic is extremely hard to match. Not only the tint but the way the flakes fall will be different from original and in many cases it will often show under certain lighting conditions even when it looks fine in daylight.

Is a touch-up can from the dealer expensive then?

I have sprayed aftermarket reversing sensors.
I had a Seafrost coloured S type, and bought silver sensors ( to be a good undercoat colour).
I had an aerosol made up at an automotive paint store and used this to paint the sensors.
The effect was perfect. I would say even if your paint was not an 100% match it wouldn't be very obvious.

Good luck..................IP
