In a couple of years time this will be a 25k car.

If that's true, then it will be a bargain.

Not that it isn't now, for those hooligans that like this sort of thing. Myself, I'll settle for 500 horses and TVs in the back.

I am or was that hooligan all across Europe

It will not be a bargain it will just be another rapidly depreciating luxo-barge.......like yours ;)

Depreciated, rather than depreciating, surely?

Mine has depreciated by 60% in 7 years - what is the average?

Isn't "hugely depreciated" another way of saying "bargain"?

I considered getting my ÂŁ100k luxo-barge for (a depreciated) <ÂŁ40k a bargain.

(... and I would be perfectly happy if it is worth ÂŁ25k in two years time, although to be fair if someone bought it from me for that, they would definitely be getting a bargain)

It's all relative I guess and statistics can be misleading. I have an above average number of legs for instance.
Also, did Jaguar actually sell any XJ's for 100k?

No idea. It was the book price (of mine, at least - the 575 was only a piffling ÂŁ94k) so I'm guessing that they sold at most five.

Interestingly, though, from a statistics point of view, the lower the actual sale price, then the lower the depreciation has been. (Buying a ÂŁ100k car for 40k is 60% depreciation, but if it were sold for say ÂŁ80k originally then the depreciation is "only" 50%)

It's all relative I guess ...
Sure is. Some people buy a Skoda for ÂŁ40k and consider it a bargain.

... statistics can be misleading.
Which (of the quoted) statistics are misleading?

The depreciation figure, as you point out, would be misleading if the actual cost new was lower than the list price which it would have been.
The fact that Jaguar could only sell 5 tells its own sad story.

Yup. As I also point out, it makes the depreciation less.

To be fair, they only appeared to make five (in 2018). Not many manufacturers have 100% sell through!

Yes, I pointed out that you had pointed it out
