Jaguar XF trunk lid difficult to close

Hi guys
Got my XF 2016 (X260) about a year ago, and from day one the trunk lid is difficult to close: I need to literately bang it for it to properly close.. checked with the dealer and they said it is common on the 2016 XFs, that was the same for other brand new XFs available at the showroom.. this doesn't sound right in my opinion given the force which needs to be applied for the lid to close which might damage some other components: one of the vehicle at the dealer showroom had the rear camera fixture damaged most likely because of this.
Have you guys faced a similar issue? do you know of any recall made by Jaguar to address this? any advises on how to deal with this issue?
cheers

I put 2 hands on the number plate and push it ... not that hard though in all honesty.
The bonnet I let drop from @ 8" to get both bonnet latches to lock,
The drivers door sometimes needs a hard pull to close though, quite often I have to open and pull hard to close it.

There was a modification to the boot seal to address issues seen on the XE where the boot lid was hitting the bumper and damaging the paint work, the new seal is firmer and so needs a bit more force to close the lid.

I plan to have a little play with mine starting with some clay on the bumper to see just how close the lid gets to the paint before adjusting the two stops on the lid and potentially the ctach position.

Just checked, the boot seal was special program code K436 - luggage compartment seal, renew and check gap.

Mine then had a complaint about the boot lid not closing correctly, the following was done:

- Confirmed boot not closing properly - carried out boot spring bracket mod as per SSM72516 (replacement of distorted mounting bracket with part code T2H19924)

My XF Portfolio is only 8 months old (I bought it Dec) and I have to say the boot-lid closure just doesn't seem right. It shouldn't need as much force as I have to give it.

I've tried adjusting the plastic shockers on the underside of the boot lid but it made no difference at all.

There's certainly is a 'technique' to closing the boot-lid so that it catches first time and I can certainly live with it, but having read post #4 I may give the dealer a call.

I've owned countless cars over the years and I honestly can't remember ever having a problem with boot lid closure, so it's a first for me.

Yes get the fix on the bootlid mentioned in previous posts before your warranty expires.

Yes you should take it to the dealer to get the seal changed - they should carry out the work (free of charge to you) regardless of whether it is under warranty or not. A manufacturer’s campaign applies for the lifetime of the car and is at the cost to the manufacturer.

Sadly though I will comment that mine was actually fine until Jaguar replaced it and only afterwards did it occasionally require force to close. Ho hum.

Hi there, sorry to bring up this old thread.

Mine is just out of warranty and I noticed the same issue. How do I get it addressed? Is there a legal saying somewhere the campaign and manufacturer's are obliged to address it regardless of warranty - just need some stuff to take it back to JLR.

Thanks in advance.

You can check your status on TOPIx (topix.jaguar.jlrext.com) registration is free and you can check outstanding campaigns. Or PM the last 8 characters of your VIN to me and I will check for you.

Either way this should not be restricted by the warranty validity.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have checked on TOPIX and nothing shows there for outstanding campaigns for my car. My feeling is that Jaguar did not widely allocated this campaign/bulletin/fault to all late 2015/ early 2016 cars and instead have been waiting for customers to complain before they attempt fix it. Hence, there may not be any active recalls/campaigns against individual vehicles?

Interesting thread, I've identified a problem in my 2016 car, which I recently purchased.

The boot lid has always required a firm hand to close it. I was monitoring the car remotely before it was picked up and transported to me. I noticed I would frequently get "boot not closed" status, once over an entire weekend (I phoned the transport company to tell them on Monday, the next thing I saw was that the boot was correctly closed. Joys of Jaguar Remote. )

Having spotted this thread I went and checked. I can see the boot lid is actually rubbing against the rear fender and has damaged it. Picture below. The boot lid itself is worn away to the metal.

As an approved used Jaguar, the car has a one year Jaguar warranty so I am contacting the dealer to see what they can do.
