Well I have just been reading mean Mr mustards thread on his car, quite a tale, Shakespeare would have been proud to have "rit it" it's like reading an Eric and Ernie play.
I'm surprised they haven't "copyrit it"
I have polished two doors today so boot, rear bumper, two doors done, Maguire's shine.
The horsebox is nearly done "pizza eaters" watch out for it at local shows/gatherings in the north Yorkshire area. You can't really miss it, it's a 🐴 box!!
For anyone interested here is my last classic now sold, the Jag is a great replacement.
No sound just a walk around.

Along with my MG midget I have moved up to a more modern classic!!! Hopefully, Boz

Well after nearly two weeks in the garage I thought I would make some changes to my access round a fairly narrow part of the driveway.
So this morning I dug out quite a steep step in the existing concrete that was stopping me from swinging round to reverse the car into the garage without 5/6 shunts.
I'm hoping the alteration will make access easier. I'm still waiting for the V5 to come back from DVLA two week Monday!.
The car is not my daily driver so apart from the pre booked service on 10/5 at Jag specialist Doncaster I have no plans to go anywhere.
The McGuire's wax has really made a difference to the already great paintwork, the previous owner has really looked after it there's not a single tar spot or swirl mark on the car, I'm presuming it was clay bar regularly, it certainly makes keeping it clean easier, Boz.

Breath taking Boz, my goodness, you must have spent many a long and pleasurable hour to make her look that spectacular ... I watched a few of your YT clips, and I thought the dying of the carpet was excellent, sometimes you can just over think things, but this was absolutely top class!

Moving on to your gorgeous new big cat, and a stunner from another mother of course ;)

Polished and primed, tucked away all cosy and warm snug as a bug, with her plate up to date, awaiting the drop with thudding loud plop, now with your V5 in hand feeling terribly grand, to the garage you go with lovely Mrs B in tow, where sits your big cat wearing only a smile, waiting to take you mile upon mile ... come on DVLA! ;)

Grinning lamp to lamp ... a bit weird I admit!

You are very welcome and here's a little more Boz ;)

My thoughts on the battery scenario with some input from TheBoy when I was stuck with a major panic attack at the time our XJ battery failed and we couldn't get into the boot.

When we change out car(s) we get them fully serviced and with the electric hungry Jag and Bentley we had new batteries - both coincidently were the ones below, fitted indecently by two different garages with no input from us:

I thought this table may be of interest to you?

Battery chargers are a must in my opinion especially if you repeatedly drive short distances or leave them standing for any length of time and I like you have a CTEK on all my cars but not the Transit as that gets used most of the time ... aka dog mobile 🐶(y);)

Using the remote +ive charging terminal in the Merc is easier as it is readily accessible as you will probably now already, given you don't have to remove the cover from the battery, and one scared old Ruby ain't about to do that jobby. I also rigged up a device to attach the comfort connection cables in my E-class as the said +ive terminal is an odd shape. I put up some info on what I did and here is a link below for anyone who is interested:

The Bentley has the comfort connectors attached +ive close to the battery and at the -ive terminal

The X351 is a whole different ball game in so much as it has what is known as a BMM at the negative terminal, as I found out from TheBoy and #Steve enlightened me to the meaning of thiis being the Battery Monitoring Module, which is a clever little device that monitors the movement of electrons (negative charge) withing the battery i.e. it has the purpose of monitoring the flow of current passing in and out of the battery and the battery status. You might like to check out this thread which has quite a bit to offer from knowledgeable members regarding the topic of batteries etc, and in particular the link below takes you the the bit about connecting the CTEK, BMM etc.
I will say here though, that when I put this up, I was using the crocodile clamps as opposed to comfort connectors, but the principle and places to connect are the same:

and these images show how I have the comfort connectors attached, to be honest, the power cable rests on the boot plate designated by the letter (e) in the image and it is absolutely fine there.

Ruby351, thank you so much for your very detailed description explaining the ctec, battery, connections.
You have certainly made it easier to understand and along with the photos very easy to follow.
When I go into the boot I will connect the neg terminal as your description, I can also check out the BBM module.
Re the battery it's also nice to see your choice of battery, along with the power scale, I have used that brand of battery in the past, should the Jag show any signs of battery failure I can now buy with confidence.
Thanks again, Boz

That's grand Boz, and I went to bed around 5.00am this morning, mulling things over ... as you do ... and I remembered I had forgotten to mention about the auxiliary battery - doh! o_O I almost leapt out of bed and fired up the old laptop to rectify this omission, but thank goodness I managed to talk myself out of it! Let's face it, I need all the beauty sleep I can get  :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Okey-dokey then, the reason I have found to NOT charge the auxiliary battery is that generally speaking it is used to power the sensitive electronics including computer etc., and if you go about charging it, you might get a voltage spike/surge when connecting or disconnecting the terminals which could damage the said electronics. Given this to be so, the cost to repair/replace could end up being a small fortune especially when talking about the onboard computer etc., hence far cheaper and easier to simply replace the battery every few years or so - well for us anyway, as our local garage guys 'n' gals sort that one out for us (y)

This YT video of a gent with his Merc explains it all very well I think:

Ruby351, another very useful piece of information, however I have already had the ctec charger on the auxiliary battery!!! I haven't started the car since it was parked up two weeks ago.

The car won't be moving far just now so I don't know if the damage has/hasn't been done,
Guesswork is something that one has to exclude when deciding what to do.
Your very concise description gives knowledgeable advice, I have left the ctec on the main battery perhaps someone who has charged the aux battery using the ctec will join in, Boz.

Well at last the V5 is back from DVLA, immediately I put my plate online. Next week it's off to Doncaster then I will take it for a run. 👏🤞
Great stuff Boz, progress of sorts, happy days.

Wonder if you'll be "spotted" when out n about lol

Jim

I might get Mrs B to see if she will stand on the corner and spot me!! Oh different job🤣
There's a good chance we may cross paths at some point or other, although I don't post in the "spotted" thread as I'm ususlly more focused on my driving than whipping my phone out to take a photo ;-)

I'm just down the road from you in Lincoln and do pop into S****horpe occasionally to visit Tradewinds in the centre, if and when I see you around there (I assume there's not many other red XJs around S****horpe) I shall politely doff my flat cap to you, with a knowing wink, maybe even a raise of a finger or 2 off the steering wheel in acknowledgement!

Fair play Dom, not "spotting" will help you keep a clean driving record for sure ;)

Hope you guys do come across each other for some doffing of caps or raised finger salute..... :)

As mentioned in another post, I'm really regretting buying this car, it's been parked up as you know for last three weeks, however I am thinking now if I take it out it will go into limp mode , or show an array of dash lights that lead on to costly repairs.
I have spent quite a large amount of cash on this car but after reading this forum for three weeks I have no confidence in it whatever.
Not only that I have it booked in for at least £1200 worth of service at a Jag specialist.
I have bought several tools specifically for the Jag, scanner, charger, battery tester, among other things expecting things to go wrong.
I just don't feel like taking myself and wife anywhere in it for fear of a disaster.
I haven't seen anything on this forum that would change my opinion that I have made a very costly mistake, Boz.☹
