Small Hole in Rear Bumper

A lady hit me from behind and left a hole in my rear bumper - which looks like it came from her front plate’s screw. It was a hit-and-run.

It’s a 2002 Jaguar X-Type (black). What would you suggest for repairing it? Would a black silicone sealant do the trick?

Thank you.

Picture of Small Dent in Bumper

Hello Cheebong,

yes it would. For a better cosmetic repair, stick a small patch of plastic from the inside with body filler, then sand and paint.

Upon closer inspection, it is not a hole, but a dent. Do you have a specific brand recommendation for a filler?

Hello Cheebong,

as you are in America, I can't recommend a brand but any good quality body filler will do the job. If you do decide to fill it, try and roughen the plastic somehow and also drill two or three small holes in the dent. The filler will squeeze out through them and provide a strong key to retain the filler.

My point being that if the area isn't damaged, I wouldn't be filling and scraping and sanding and priming or painting.

That could end up being awful and need the whole bumper respraying.

If it will come out with a small or no mark, it's preferable.

I've removed two dents the size of the one in the video on my Prado in this way and they were unnoticeable.
