Is the message the same when the fob is docked as opposed to it Just laying on centre console?

 

Have you checked the battery contacts in the key are not bent? Also recommended to replace with a decent brand, genuine battery, bought from a reputable supplier - i.e. not a potential counterfeit.

 

Thanks for the tips guys, Will check the key battery again have tried two different brands so far. As for the docking the fob cannot be docked my model doesn't have the docking station, I've held the key where the docking station used to be but nothing happens.

 

The fob battery isn’t going to make any difference as it has nothing to do with starting the car

Yes I have changed the battery a couple of times and tried different brands no difference unfortunately

 

There's some marks on the lower column shroad indicating where to place the key!

I believe the issue is related to the KVM and the key is no longer connected to the car needs to be re paired. Does anyone know anyone outside a dealer that would do this?

 

Hi.. Have you had any luck? I'm having a similar issue. My light button works on the key fob but nothing else.. Car won't start either receive error Smart key not found. Checked the Kvm unit the key is still loaded on there.. So not sure what next

 

Start by either inserting the key into the docking station or if it's too new and doesn't have one, identify the spot on the steering shroud and hold it there whilst trying to start.

 

Tried all of that.. No luck.. From what I'm reading. It needs to somehow be reprogrammed through SSD.. Will advise once that is tried

 

Solution :Tech guy used SDD software to program the keys again. All in order now.

As I understand it, this issue can be connected to water in the junction box, so may also be worth checking this isn't the cause. The reprogramming may fix the issue, but if the cause is water damage, the problem may come back if the battery is removed in the future, if not also fixed.
If you give your approximate location, someone may be able to recommend a specialist nearby.
Edit. Just seen your original post that you are in USA.

Hi there, sorry to hear of your issues.

I had something similar on my XJ X351, I was having some work done on the car and the garage left doors etc open and killed the battery, stone dead, keys not recognised, was a real nightmare.
We ended up disconnecting the battery for around 15 mins to reset, then re connected and keys were recognised, all A ok.

There were a few things to reset etc, but the main problem was solved, see here

You could always go the route I did and purchase the OBDSTAR-H100 and try programming a (couple of) new key(s).
That’s what I did after my only key fob was obliterated in a car accident and I now have two new working key fobs.

Hi Rob.. Unfortunately I am based in South Africa. The cost to me in USD was about $100.. No new parts were required.. All he done was plug in the cable to the car diagnostic port and then worked his magic using the SDD software on his laptop.

I can reprogram the CJB for you if you send it to me in Cape Town. But you will need access to SDD in order to synchronise it to your car again.
