They’re relatively new - last 18 months. It made a slight clunk on a smooth road? Low speed luckily.

Jack it and take the wheel off.

First you could look under the bonnet at the bolts in the strut tower.

Just had it recovered home, the truck driver is of the opinion something is seriously loose - strut bolts looks solid though.
I’ve got the RAC coming to look now that I’m home.

I'm with FC on this one, many moons ago that happened to my granada in the middle of the road doing a turn. Caused a ton of hassle. police waving cars by hooters going, was a balljoint at the top if i remember rightly. In the days when they actually fixed your car when they came out they done it there and then in the road. really quickly.
Good luck lets hope its something that isnt as bad as it looks.

I'm hoping its not as bad as it looks, I was shocked at the sight of it at first, that's why I asked for direct recovery instead of having the van out first. I've got a RAC van coming to the house this evening so will update then. Can't fault my experience with the RAC though, second time I've used them this year and both times been with me within 1 hour.

Were They OE upper wishbones which you replaced them with and were they from a good source.

If so I would contact the manufacturer as they should not have failed like that.

I had them replaced about 18 months ago- 2 years ago. I had them done by local Jag Independent so u would have hoped they would be decent. But I’m not happy how it’s failed like that.

Do you still have the receipt because they should be still in a warranty. At least that is the case in Germany.

I would contact the independent garage as they should deal with this as the pieces that they fitted are sub standard.
Check the other side to see if it also loose.

This could have resulted in a very serious accident.

I've been told its only a 12 month warranty, I don't have the receipt for them in any case. It was lucky I was just on a very slow road - anything faster would certainly have been dangerous!

I should have done, even I would have solved it in 3 seconds! Upper ball joint has failed.

Wow, that's crazy, very lucky you were only going slow, that could've been very nasty.
Sounds at least like the RAC did their part, seen too many examples of very very long wait times
Was it genuine / aftermarket parts fitted?

When I take mine in I always say dont worry about the cost of the parts. Put the good ones on.
Luckily I trust the 2 people who've done my car and the reciept shows the good ones.

I don't know the supplier that was used, not sure when I'll get it back either because I'm waiting for a new CAT so that it will pass the MOT, which expires today.
